James

Best & Fairest – James Corboy

There were signs of things to come in last years Grand Final – however, I don’t think anyone would have predicted the performances we saw from James this season. Playing as a rover come very handy forward – James provided the benchmark to the team for hard running and attack on the ball. His ‘never say die’ attitude is inspirational. A wonderful season of great football.

Liam

Equal 2nd Best & Fairest (tied) – Liam Duffy.

Liam had his best season so far for the Falcons. Played most of it in the ruck – and really provided the drive to kick start the team early in the season. Ran himself into the ground most weeks. Pleasing to see Liam starting to use both sides of his body and kicked at least one goal off his left.

Jack

Equal 2nd Best & Fairest (tied) – Jack Silvagni.

Jack not only finished 2nd in our Best and Fairest, he came 7th in the League best & Fairest and also represented the YJFL in the interleague match. His poise during a game, marking, kicking and instruction to team-mates make him an asset wherever he plays on the ground. To that end he took on many roles – extra man in the backline, ruck rover and forward target – all of which he played with accomplishment.

Marcus

3rd Best & Fairest – Marcus Alessi.

New to the club in 2009 – Marcus brought run, skills and flair that had the capability to light up a game and bring strong applause and praise from spectators. He played most of the season either on the wing or on the ball – but I think probably has a preference for showing off his goal sense up forward. A pleasure to have in the team and more than once brought a smile to the faces of the coaching staff as he nonchalantly plucked ‘one-handers’ on the run on training nights.

Most Improved Award – Lachlan Bruce.

Brucey showed early signs that he had stepped up this season. A dominant game – particularly in the ruck during pre-season set the tone. He spent the majority of his time as the rock of our defence at full back – on many, many occasions stamping out strong forward thrusts from the opposition with a telling mark, bear hug tackle or running the ball over the boundary line. His field positioning, skills and reliability week in, week out have developed extremely well since last season and make him a worthy winner of this award.

Coaches Award (James Presutto Memorial Award*) – Vaughan Smith.

Vaughan matured as a player and individual this season. Quiet and considered off the field – but always willing to listen and learn. On field – as tough as they come. Lead by example and captained the side on a number of occasions through out the season as a result. A completely dependable and competent player whether in the ruck, marshalling the backline or given his utmost to drag the team over the line with desperation up forward.
